Wasn’t last week nice?
I was so busy that I didn’t ask you to do anything, get rid of anything, think about your life and all the things you do to the point of existential dread?
Well NO MORE.
This week we are trying something new - a challenge!
For the month of August, I am challenging all of you to start and keep one TINY habit.
What’s a Tiny Habit?
Well I’m so glad you asked.
Let’s kick it off with mine, and how I got there.
🌱 My August Habit
I wanted to start getting outside in the mornings. Sounds nice, right? Fresh air, movement, maybe a little main character energy with a coffee and a sunrise.
At first, I thought: I’ll go for a run!
Except… no. I’m not trying to show up to a client call with a tomato-red face and a sweat halo.
So then I tried: Okay, a 20-minute walk around the neighbourhood.
That was cute… for three days, until I was stressed about being away from my desk first thing in the morning and not enjoying the walk itself.
But one morning, I looked out at my backyard - which, by the way, is adorable (completely inherited by the previous owners) and realized:
I don’t even set foot out there until 5pm most days.
Then I thought that just maybe, I could make my morning goal a lot easier, and knock off another goal of spending more time in my backyard.
Overachiever itch scratched, I set a new attainable goal -
Every day I’m home in August, I go into my backyard for five minutes in the morning.
Just five. That’s the rule.
I’ll set a timer on my watch so I don’t get distracted or stressed about how long I’m out there. I’ll probably wander around aimlessly, maybe check out some birds, pull some weeds out of the lawn with the absolute BEST WEEDING TOOL.
If I stay longer, great.
If I don’t, I still achieved my Tiny Habit goal.
🏗️ Small Inputs, Big Output
Many of my consulting clients consistently take on huge goals which sound great in board meetings and quarterly updates. However, they are so big and so complicated, they almost always fall flat.
But one thing that consistently gets results?
Daily rhythms.
Replenishment that runs like clockwork.
Cycle counts that take minutes a day but prevent inventory write-offs.
5S audits that stop chaos before it starts.
Big change doesn’t need big effort. It needs small effort, repeated.
So we are taking those key learnings and applying them to our own life.
🔄 A Few Other Habit Shrinks
Big Goal | Tiny Habit |
|---|---|
Quit social media for August | Put phone in a drawer for 30 minutes a day. |
Meditate every morning | Take 3 deep breaths before opening your laptop |
Clean the whole kitchen every night | Load the dishwasher right after dinner |
Write a daily journal | Jot down one sentence in the Notes app before bed |
Cook more at home | Plan just 2 dinners for the week on Sunday night |
The trick isn’t to impress anyone. It’s to build momentum.
👋 What’s it gonna be?
So - what’s your Tiny Habit goal for August?
Hit reply and tell me. I’ll even keep you accountable if you want!
Let’s make August low-stress, high-impact.
Five minutes at a time.
