I’ve been on the move these past couple weeks - catching up with old friends, spending time with family, and doing a bit of summer travel. It’s been great, and also, extremely busy!
At first, I felt a bit behind. But then I remembered something that’s true in supply chain and in life:
Sometimes the line needs to slow down so the system can reset.
In manufacturing, when one station gets ahead of the others, you stop the line. You give the next process time to catch up, reduce errors, and re-sync before problems start stacking up.
This week, I took my own pause with no content creation, no planning, no overproduction. Just a breath. And I’m trusting that it’s part of a rhythm that keeps things running smoothly in the long term.
What slowing the line looked like for me this week:
Saying yes to a slow morning coffee with my sister instead of diving into my inbox
Spontaneous phone call catching up with a university friend I hadn’t spoken to in years with no agenda, just stories
Letting myself not write a newsletter while I was mid-travel and mid-time-zone confusion
Choosing a Spotify “Discover Weekly” travel playlist over listening to an audiobook about productivity (shocking, I know)
If you need the same permission to let the unfolded laundry pile a little bit higher, watch some trashy TV, take a long walk outside and close your laptop early, then this is your sign. The work will still be there when you return, and you’ll be sharper when you do.
Back to our regularly scheduled programming next week :)
